Here is a video of one of the climbing walls taking shape. Rockwerx has created an incredible system for building climbing walls that focuses on speed and customization. When the trucks arrive, a large percentage of the wall has already been fabricated, but it is done in such a way that if we need to change an angle, or want to create a different feature from what was created in the model, it is possible without losing an entire day from the schedule. Watch this wall being framed from start to finish for a visual explanation of the process.
Rockwerx sent us pictures of the steel structure for the climbing walls that are headed our way. The crew will arrive ahead of the steel shipment to start laying out the walls and preparing for the over-sized delivery. Rockwerx prefabricates their walls to make the on-site construction as smooth and quick as possible. If time permits, they will go as far as building an entire section of wall, including pre-cutting the plywood as seen in the picture below. Walls will start going up this week!
Why did we decide on Rockwerx to build our climbing walls?
Well, it wasn’t the 15 years of experience or the glowing recommendations we heard from previous clients. It wasn’t even necessarily the Rockwerx walls we have had countless hours of first-hand experience with over the years running competitions on — we knew we were getting the very best product on the market before we hired them.
The truth is that Rockwerx is THE standout wall manufacture in the industry because of their commitment to the commercial gym market. They have made the commitment and posses the personal passion for innovating, furthering and growing the market.
We recently visited Rockwerx – world head quarters in Barre, Ma. – to wrap up final design and also some unique surprises we have in store for our walls at movement.
Their 14,000 sq ft facility is a clean, organized and well-oiled machine. Everyone there is psyched, hospitable and motivated to be doing their job. Their fearless leader, President and lead designer Cort Gariepy, has created a culture of “work hard, play hard”.
We already knew about the “work hard” focus. Every gym owner we talked to that had worked with Rockwerx either had their walls completed on-time or ahead of schedule.
What we didn’t know about was the “play hard” part.
There is not much climbing near the Rockwerx facility so the crew has developed a passion for the motor sports world. With winter in full swing right now, they are in full snowmobile mode. And just like building walls, they apply their “let’s do it the best we can or not at all” mentality. We worked a full day and were on the “sleds” by 7:30pm and rode until 1am. The only way I can relate is that it would be like finding a first-time climber and convincing them to free solo up the 1st Flatiron. Not to say that Cort did not watch out for us, but it was like 5.8 newbies trying to keep up with 5.14 riders.
It was a trip that was well worth the effort and we could not be more excited about having Cort and the Rockwerx crew building our walls and being a part of the movement team. Here are some images from the trip to help paint the picture.
